Judicial review on imposition of Employees Retraining Levy
**********************************************************

In response to information that the Court of Appeal will soon hand down judgment on the judicial review of the reduction of the minimum allowable wage for foreign domestic helpers (FDHs) and the imposition of the Employees Retraining Levy on employers of FDHs, a Government spokesman said:

"We have received written notice from the Court Registrar informing the parties that the Court of Appeal will hand down the judgment on Wednesday (July 19).

"As the Government will require time to consider the implications of the judgment, the issue of visas for employment of FDHs may be suspended on Wednesday. Unless there is urgency, members of the public are advised to collect the visas on another day," added the spokesman. However, the Immigration Department will continue to accept applications for visas and extensions of stay from FDHs as usual."
