Officers of Customs Drug Investigation Bureau yesterday (July 16) seized one kilogram of herbal cannabis, and arrested two men in an anti-narcotics operation in Tseung Kwan O.

At 6.15pm, Customs officers intercepted two men, who were alighting from a private car in a suspicious manner, in Ma Yau Tong, Tseung Kwan O.

When Customs officers were about to intercept the men for a search, one of the men threw a plastic bag down to the slope. The officers later located the plastic bag, and found one kilogram of herbal cannabis inside. The drug could fetch $65,000 if sold on the market.

The arrested men were both aged 27. One of them was charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug, and another was under Customs investigation.

Customs officers believed that the drugs were intended for sale at entertainment venues in Yau Ma Tei, Tsim Sha Tsui and Mong Kok.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, the maximum penalty for "trafficking in a dangerous drug" is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
