Legco ITB Panel visits Cyberport

    Members of the Legislative Council Panel on Information Technology and Broadcasting visited Cyberport today (July 17) to learn about the latest developments there.

     Panel Chairman Mr Sin Chung-kai, Mr Jasper Tsang Yok-sing and Mr Howard Young were briefed by the Acting Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Stephen Mak, and the Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited, Mr Nicholas Yang, at the Visitor Centre on the latest developments at the project and the advanced information technology (IT) facilities and network provided to the tenants.

     The members then visited the Hong Kong Wireless Development Centre, which provides a central testing platform and marketing/technical support for wireless application developers, and saw a demonstration on the latest 3G applications.

     The members then proceeded to the iResource Centre where they learned about the Digital Rights Management Platform launched in November 2005. The system provides a platform for the legal download of audiovisual content including movies and short films.

     When touring the Digital Entertainment Incubation/Training Centre and Digital Media Centre, the members learned that one of Cyberport's missions was to provide training and facility support to promote the development of the local digital entertainment industry.

     The panel also visited three local and overseas tenants at Cyberport ¡ª ESRI China (Hong Kong) Limited, Hong Kong CSL Limited and Swiss Reinsurance ¡ª before concluding their visit.

     Cyberport provides 95,000 square metres of Grade A office accommodation for IT and IT-related companies, a shopping arcade, and a five-star hotel. It is dedicated to providing world-class infrastructure and a campus-like environment that encourages exchange and synergy among IT professionals and helps nurture professional talent for the industry.
