More civil celebrants of marriages appointed
********************************************

"Another batch of 65 civil celebrants of marriages ("civil celebrants") was appointed today (July 14)," an Immigration Department spokesman said.

Since the appointment of the first batch of civil celebrants on April 21, 2006, a total of 693 civil celebrants have been appointed. The updated list of civil celebrants can be found at the Immigration Department website at http://www.immd.gov.hk. The list is also available at the Information and Liaison Section of the Immigration Department at 2nd Floor, Immigration Tower, 7 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai (Tel. No. 2824 6111) and at various marriage registries.

The spokesman added that since the implementation of Civil Celebrants of Marriages Scheme, i.e. April this year, more than 600 couples had filed their marriage notice through civil celebrants of marriages and more than 450 couples had their marriage solemnized by civil celebrants of marriages. The Scheme was welcomed by members of the public because they have more choices and greater convenience in making arrangements for their weddings. Records revealed that marriages solemnized by civil celebrants of marriages took place in the office of the celebrants, hotel, recreational club, park, marriage hall in wedding service companies' office and ancestral hall etc. It is expected that more intended marrying parties would choose to use the service provided by civil celebrants in the peak season of marriages later this year.
