The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene has ordered a light refreshment restaurant in Yau Ma Tei to suspend business for 14 days for repeated violations of the Food Business Regulation.

The restaurant, at 103 Woosung Street, Yau Ma Tei, G/F, was ordered to suspend business from today (July 13) to July 26, a Food and Environmental Hygiene Department spokesman said.

"In March and April this year, there were two convictions in respect of failing to cover food properly and illegal extension of food business outside the licensed area at the said food premises.

"A total fine of $5,500 was levied and 15 points were registered against the licensee under the department's demerit points system. The contraventions resulted in the 14-day business suspension," the spokesman said.

He added that there was also one conviction of using open space for preparation of food in July last year and two convictions of failing to cover food properly in January this year regarding the same restaurant.

"A total fine of $6,600 was levied and 20 demerit points were also registered against the licensee. The breaches had led to business suspension for seven days from April 6 to 12 this year," the spokesman said.

He reminded licensees of food premises to comply strictly with the Food Business Regulation, otherwise their licences could be suspended or cancelled.
