Update of Norovirus cases in public hospitals
*********************************************

A spokesperson for the Hospital Authority (HA) gave the following update today (July 12):

At 5pm today (July 12), there were two public hospitals with new cases of patients suffering from diarrhoea or vomiting symptoms on individual wards. The breakdown is as follows:

* Haven of Hope Hospital - four female patients (aged 78 to 92). All in stable condition.

* Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital - five female patients (aged 29 to 79). All in stable condition.

All the patients are being treated under isolation. Laboratory tests are being carried out for the symptomatic patients. Some of the patients tested positive to Norovirus, while others are still waiting for test results.

Various infection control measures have already been stepped up in the wards concerned according to operational needs of individual hospitals, which include temporary suspension of admission to and discharge from the ward, restricted visiting, with adequate precautionary measures, enhanced medical surveillance of other patients in the ward.

The cases have already been reported to the HA Head Office and Centre for Health Protection for follow up action.
