Guangdong enterprises explore investment opportunities in Hong Kong (with photos)

    At the investment environment seminar held in Hong Kong today (July 5), about 100 visiting delegates from Guangdong enterprises explored the opportunities to use Hong Kong as a platform for expanding their businesses overseas.

     The "Hong Kong ¡ª Platform for Guangdong Enterprises to Go Global" Seminar was jointly organised by Invest Hong Kong and the Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Guangdong Province (Guangdong DOFTEC). Co-organisers included the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR and the Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association.

     The delegation comprises senior executives from about 100 Guangdong enterprises interested in investing in Hong Kong. The potential Mainland investors were briefed on the strategies for expanding their business and using Hong Kong as the platform to enter the world market.

     The delegation was warmly welcomed to the seminar by the Deputy Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Philip Yung; Deputy Director-General of Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Guangdong Province, Zhu Ze Nan; Deputy Head of Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People¡¯s Government in HKSAR, Wang Hui.

     Director-General of Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong, Mike Rowse, spoke at the seminar about the investment environment of Hong Kong and the business opportunities for Guangdong enterprises.

     Mr Rowse said:¡°Hong Kong is an international financial and business centre with strong links with the Mainland. Our city is the ideal platform for Guangdong enterprises to plan and execute their global business activities. Invest Hong Kong will continue to work closely with counterparts in Guangdong to assist its enterprises to invest in Hong Kong and to enter the international arena."

     He added that Invest Hong Kong has expanded its investment promotion team and set up an investment service centre in Guangzhou. The service centre will help Mainland enterprises take advantage of Hong Kong's attractive business environment and opportunities.

     Ms Michelle Xia, General Manager of Hercules Logistics (HK) Ltd which was headquartered in Shenzhen and set up operations in Hong Kong with the assistance of InvestHK, shared its success story in investing in Hong Kong with the delegates. Professor Lau Ho Fuk from the Department of Marketing of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, discussed how to leverage the competitive advantages of Hong Kong in establishing an international presence. Ms Loretta Shuen, Partner of Ernst and Young explained the accounting and financial implications in setting up operations in Hong Kong.    

     The delegation also attended the "2006 Business Fair for Guangdong ¡ª Hong Kong Economic, Technology and Trade Cooperation" organised by the HKSAR Government and the People's Government of Guangdong Province held in the same morning.
