Sichuan troupe to showcase award-winning dance works

    The Song and Dance Ensemble of Sichuan will give two performances showcasing award-winning Chinese classical and ethnic dance pieces and excerpts from "A Showcase of Poetry, Music and Dance of Tang Dynasty" in August.

     Featuring group dances from different tribes, classical Chinese dance, pas de trios and pas de deux, the performances, "Award-winning Chinese Dances Gala", will be held on Friday, August 4 at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall and Saturday, August 5 at the Auditorium, Yuen Long Theatre. The shows will start at 8pm.

     Established more than 50 years ago, the Song and Dance Ensemble of Sichuan has won many dance competitions including the "Five 'One' Project Award", the "Wenhua Grand Award" and the "Wenhua Award" for New Repertory presented by the Ministry of Culture, Silver and Gold Awards for Performance, the "Lotus Awards" and the "Taoli Cup" Awards. The choreographers and the dancers have also won awards from the Ministry of Culture, such as the "Plum Blossom Award", the "Wenhua Award" for Choreography, Original Music and Performance.

     Known for its professionalism and ethnic colour, the company has toured many countries and regions with popular and critical acclaim.

     "Award-winning Chinese Dances Gala" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

     Tickets ($180, $140 and $100 for Hong Kong City Hall; $160, $120 and $80 for Yuen Long Theatre) are available at URBTIX outlets, while senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients can have 50% off (limited quotas for students and CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis). A 10% discount applies to Friends of LCSD performing venues. There will also be group booking discounts: 10% for four to nine tickets, 15% for 10 to 19 tickets, 20% for 20 tickets or more.
