Blood tests on woman show no JE infection

    Blood tests on the 49-year-old woman suspected to have contracted Japanese encephalitis (JE) last month has confirmed that she is not infected with the disease.

     The woman was found to have developed repeated vomiting, fever and generalised convulsions when she was admitted to Tuen Mun Hospital on May 25.      

     A spokesman for the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health today (June 16) said blood taken from the woman on May 26, June 7 and June 14 did not show rising antibody against JE virus.

     The woman is still under treatment in Tuen Mun Hospital. Her condition is stable.
