United Christian Hospital Norovirus cases update

    Regarding a medical ward in United Christian Hospital in which there were patients presenting with vomiting and diarrhoea symptoms earlier, the hospital announced the following updates today (June 16):

     Today, there are three more male patients (aged 73 to 79) and one staff member in the medical ward presenting with diarrhoea. The patients are being treated in isolation and the staff member is on sick leave. Since June 7, there have been a total of nine patients and one staff member with the symptoms. All of them are in a stable condition. Three patients have tested positive for Norovirus. Laboratory investigations and results for the remaining patients are pending.

     Infection control measures have already been enhanced. Admission to the ward is prohibited for the time-being. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
