2006 provisional registers open for public inspection
*****************************************************

The Registration and Electoral Office (REO) will release the 2006 provisional registers tomorrow (June 15) for public inspection until June 29.

For the Election Committee (EC) subsectors, the number of voters in the provisional register has increased by about 18,000 to about 220,300.

The number of electors in the provisional register for functional constituencies (FC) has also increased by about 16,400 to about 215,500.

The number of electors in the provisional register for geographical constituencies (GC) has slightly decreased by about 29,700 to about 3,186,000, after taking into account deletions of electors who had passed away or had not reported their latest residential addresses to the REO.

More statistical information about the provisional registers will be available at the voter registration website www.voterregistration.gov.hk tomorrow morning.

All validated applications for registration as GC, FC and EC subsector voters, and change of particulars reported to the REO, are included in the respective provisional registers. As regards those who are no longer eligible for registration, their names are included in the omissions lists which will also be published.

Anyone who has applied to register, but does not find his name in the relevant register; or whose name is included in an omissions list; or who finds that his entries are incorrectly recorded, may lodge a notice of claim in person with the REO by June 29.

Anyone who considers that a person is not eligible to be registered may lodge a notice of objection in person with the REO also by June 29.

Specified forms for claims and objections are available from the REO and can be downloaded from its website www.reo.gov.hk/en/voter/application.htm.

All those listed in the provisional registers are advised to report to REO on or before June 29 any changes in address and registration particulars. Failure to do so may affect their eligibility to vote.

Full copies of the provisional register and omissions list for GC will be available for public inspection during ordinary business hours at the REO at 10/F Harbour Centre, 25 Harbour Road, Wan Chai. The relevant section of that register pertinent to a particular district will be available at the respective District Office.

Full copies of the provisional register and omissions list for FC and EC subsectors will be available for public inspection at the REO¡¯s Harbour Centre office and its office at 10/F Guardian House, 32 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai, and the five District Offices in Central and Western, Yau Tsim Mong, Kwun Tong, Sha Tin and Tsuen Wan.

People may make enquiries to the REO hotline, 2891 1001, to check whether their names are listed in the registers or the omissions lists.

The REO will publish the final registers by July 25.
