SJ ends London visit

     The Secretary for Justice, Mr Wong Yan Lung, SC, today (June 9, UK time) concluded his first visit to London in the role he assumed in October.

     On his final day, Mr Wong addressed a gathering at the international affairs think tank, Chatham House, met members of the media and a lively gathering of UK-based students.

     During the visit he also called on the Secretary of State for Constitutional Affairs, Lord Falconer, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Mr Mike Gapes, and former Deputy Prime Minister, Lord Howe, among other officials, paid a visit to the Chinese Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Mr Zha Peixin and briefed members of the Hong Kong Association Committee on Hong Kong legal developments.

     He outlined legal developments in Hong Kong to a breakfast meeting of the Law Society and also called on the Attorney-General for England and Wales, Lord Goldsmith, QC, and the Chairman of the UK Law Commission, Sir Roger Toulson.

     Mr Wong also had informative exchanges with the President of the Law Society, Mr Kevin Martin and the Chairman of the Bar Council, Mr Stephen Hockman, QC.

     Mr Wong will return to Hong Kong tomorrow (June 10).
