MPFA recovers MPF non-payment for nine employees

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (June 7) pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $150,000 on behalf of nine employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At today's hearing, the defendants, including Hang Fung Vacuumforming Manufactory Limited, Kayart Bus Limited, Shum's Arts Corner Limited and Lai Chiu Ming trading as Ming Fung Garment Factory, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of  $40,405.8, $29,161.8, $27,863.95 and $13,965, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other two defendants, including Gemtek Faith (USA) Limited and Chau Ching trading as Ching Kee Construction, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $27,380.86 and $17,817.4, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $270, $110, $220, $90, $140 and $120 as the costs in respect of the claims.
