Unauthorised articles seized in Stanley Prison
**********************************************

The Correctional Services Department (CSD) is taking every measure to prevent prisoners from concealing any unauthorised articles, a spokesperson for the department said today (June 5).

The existing mechanism effectively prevented prisoners from possessing any such articles and, eradicated their presence in correctional institutions, he said.

The spokesperson's comments followed the case of seizure of unauthorised tablets concealed by a male prisoner in Stanley Prison on June 2.

Department staff who conducted a security search of a 31-year-old prisoner, surnamed Li, after his medical consultation in prison hospital, found unprescribed tablets concealed in his tea mug without authority. The tablets were later identified as "Artane". Preliminary investigations suggest that Li took the tablets during the consultation.

The case has been reported to the Police. An investigation is also being conducted by the CSD.

In August 2005, Li was sentenced to five years and two months on a charge of obtaining property by deception.
