New Cyberport director appointed

    The Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited (HKCMCL) today (June 5) announced the appointment of Ms Winnie J Ng to its board of directors for a one-year term.

     Ms Ng is the Executive Director of The Kowloon Motor Bus Co. (1933) Ltd. She has been serving the community as a council member of the Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation, board member of the Agency for Volunteer Service, and public relations committee member of the Community Chest.

     Welcoming the appointment, the Permanent Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology (Communications and Technology), Mr Francis Ho, said that Ms Ng had extensive and professional managerial experience in both the private and public sectors.

      "I am confident that Ms Ng's professional background will provide fresh impetus to the board of directors and reinforce its management and marketing experience and expertise to meet the challenge faced by Cyberport in the coming year," Mr Ho said.

     With the new appointment, there are now 10 non-government directors and two government directors on the board. The two government directors are Mr Francis Ho, and the Permanent Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury (Treasury), Mr Alan Lai. They are acting for and on behalf of the Financial Secretary Incorporated (FSI) and the Hong Kong Cyberport Development Holdings Limited, shareholders of HKCMCL.

     The Board of HKCMCL is responsible for directing the company according to prudent commercial principles within the overall objectives and guidelines set by the Government for Cyberport.

     HKCMCL is one of the three private and wholly-owned companies set up by the Government under the FSI, to oversee the development of the Cyberport. It is responsible for the development, operation and management of the Cyberport Project, which comprises around 100,000-square metre intelligent Grade A office space, a 27,000-square metre shopping arcade and a five-star hotel.  These facilities were completed in June, 2004.
