SCIT to attend APEC MRT in Viet Nam

    The Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Mr Joseph WP Wong, will depart for Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam tomorrow (May 31) to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Trade (MRT).

     Support to the conclusion of Doha Development Agenda (DDA) by the end of 2006 is among the most prioritised political mandate of APEC. In this regard, trade ministers from 21 member economies will review the progress of DDA negotiations at the APEC MRT scheduled for June 1 and 2. Director General of World Trade Organisation, Mr Pascal Lamy, will join the discussion.

     The meeting will also discuss the action plan to implement the Busan roadmap towards the Bogor Goals of open and free trade and investment, the development of regional trade agreements/ free trade agreements, as well as measures for trade facilitation in the region.

     Mr Wong will return to Hong Kong on June 2.
