Security strengthened at Western Wholesale Food Market
******************************************************

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) had strengthened management control of the Western Wholesale Food Market, a spokesman for the department said today (May 30).

Starting this morning, all visitors and vehicles are required to register with the management staff before entering the market and more security staff have been deployed to enforce the registration rules.

The spokesman said the new measures could strengthen management control of the market to combat the landing and distribution of freshwater fish without health certificates and other crimes there.

The department held discussions with market tenants before the measures were implemented.

The new measures were first implemented in Cheung Sha Wan Wholesale Food Market on May 15. There had not been any notable change in the number of people and vehicles entering the market.
