CG and relief agencies approached on relief aid to earthquake victims

    The Administration Wing has approached the Indonesian Consul-General and the international relief organizations in Hong Kong this morning (May 29) with a view to providing the necessary relief aid to the earthquake victims in Yogyakarta province in Indonesia.

     A spokesman for the Administration Wing said that the Director of Protocol, Mr Tony Nguyen, had contacted the Indonesia Consul-General, Mr Paiman Turnip, this morning to ascertain the scope and kinds of aid that would be needed to relieve the plight of the victims in the devastated areas.

     The Administration Wing has also contacted several international relief organizations in Hong Kong, including Mˆmdecins Sans Frontiˆores, Oxfam, Red Cross and  World Vision, to see if they would need to seek funding from and undertake emergency relief programmes under the Disaster Relief Fund.

     ¡°This effort is under way. We would coordinate the efforts of relevant departments with a view to getting the relief aid delivered to the quake-struck areas as soon as possible,¡± the spokesman added.
