Immigration Department concerned about Indonesia quake

    The Immigration Department expressed concern that a strong earthquake in Indonesia yesterday (May 27) had resulted in a large number of deaths and casualties.

     The Department, the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia are maintaining close liaison and monitoring the development of the situation.

     Hong Kong residents who need assistance may contact the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia at (62-21) 5761027 / 5761040 or call the Hong Kong Immigration Department's 24-hour hotline at (852) 1868.

     It is learned that so far no Hong Kong residents have been involved in the incident. The Immigration Department has not received any request for assistance.
