Illegal food business in Yuen Long raided (with photos)
*******************************************************

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) conducted a blitz operation last night (May 26) against illegal food business activities.

During the operation, six mobile carts were found selling a variety of cooked food on a piece of private land at Long Ping Road, Yuen Long.

"Some 55 kilogrammes of raw and cooked food, including fish balls, glutinous rice, fried rice and noodles, together with some paraphernalia found at the site were seized.

"One woman was arrested and charged with operating an unlicensed food factory," a spokesman for the department said.

He said FEHD officers would take stringent enforcement action against unlicensed food businesses to safeguard food safety and public health.

"Anyone with information on unlicensed food businesses should immediately call the department's hotline at 2868 0000," he said.

According to the Food Business Regulation, the maximum penalty for operating an unlicensed food factory is a fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment, plus a daily fine of $900.
