SCIT to attend OECD Ministerial Council Meeting

    The Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Mr Joseph WP Wong, will depart for Paris, France today (May 22) to attend the Trade Session of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) annual Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM).

     The Trade Session, scheduled for May 24, will discuss the follow-up to the World Trade Organization Sixth Ministerial Conference in Hong Kong last year. Ministers will focus on the final hurdles to overcome with the aim of concluding the Doha Development Agenda (DDA) negotiations by the end of the year.

     At the margins of the OECD MCM, Mr Wong will attend an informal plurilateral meeting of WTO trade ministers to review progress in the DDA negotiations. He will also meet with the Director-General of WTO, Mr Pascal Lamy and hold bilateral meetings with other trade ministers.

     On his way back to Hong Kong, Mr Wong will stop over in London and take the opportunity to meet Government officials and prominent personalities and exchange views in areas relating to his portfolio.

     Mr Wong will return to Hong Kong on May 27.
