Siu Lam Hospital fever and respiratory symptoms cases update

    Regarding the nine patients (aged 29 to 58) of a female ward in Siu Lam Hospital (SLH) presented with fever and respiratory symptoms, SLH gave the following update today (May 17):

     Today one more patient (aged 20) in the ward has symptoms of fever and upper respiratory infection. She has been transferred to the isolation ward of Tuen Mun Hospital for further management. Appropriate tests will be carried out.

     One of the patients who had fever and respiratory symptoms earlier has tested positive to Influenza A. There are now six patients still being treated in the isolation ward of Tuen Mun Hospital. Five of them are in a stable condition and one is in a serious condition.

     Infection control measures of the ward concerned have been stepped up. Admission to and discharge from the ward have been suspended, while the visiting policy is unchanged. Patients' relatives have been informed about the situation. All other patients and the staff in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
