Trading in Cheung Sha Wan Market remains normal
***********************************************

Trading in the Cheung Sha Wan Wholesale Food Market had remained as normal since registration of people and vehicles on entry was introduced earlier this week, a spokesman for the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) said today (May 17).

The Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, Mrs Stella Hung, met traders' representatives today and exchanged views on the new measures to strengthen management control of the market.

The department had discussions with market tenants before the measures were implemented.

Since their implementation on Monday, there had not been any notable change in the number of people and vehicles entering the market.  On average, 4,600 people and 2,900 vehicles entered the market each day.

The spokesman said the new measures could strengthen management control of the market to combat the landing and distribution of freshwater fish without health certificates and other crimes there.

The measures will be extended shortly to other wholesale markets supervised by the AFCD.
