SEDL leads delegation to Yunnan (With photos)

    The Secretary for Economic Development and Labour and Chairman of the Hong Kong Logistics Development Council (LOGSCOUNCIL), Mr Stephen Ip, today (May 14) leads a delegation of business leaders of Hong Kong's logistics and tourism sectors to Kunming.

     Delegates will discuss with their counterparts in Yunnan ways to enhance mutual cooperation and explore investment opportunities. "Our aim is to strengthen cooperation between the two sides in the tourism and logistics sectors," Mr Ip said.

     After arriving in Kunming, delegates met with the Vice-Governor of the Yunnan Province, Mr Liu Ping, and other senior officials to update each other on the latest development and investment opportunities in the tourism and logistics industries of the two places.

     There will be further meetings tomorrow with officials from related provincial government departments, including the Economic Cooperation Office, Foreign Affairs Office, Development and Reform Commission, Economic Commission, Communications Department, Department of Commerce and Tourism Bureau.

     On tourism, delegates will brief their Yunnan counterparts on Hong Kong's latest tourist attractions including the Ngong Ping 360, Wetland Park, HK Disneyland and Ocean Park. Some delegates will also visit tourist routes and possible investment projects in Yunnan.

     Discussions will be held with the provincial Tourism Bureau and related organizations on the development and joint promotion of multi destination itineraries for Hong Kong and Yunnan; two-way travel of residents in the two places; as well as manpower training and exchange of experience among industry representatives of both places.

     Delegates from the logistics sector will participate in briefings arranged by the provincial government, and visit logistics facilities and enterprises in Kunming. With a view to building a solid foundation for future cooperation and development, they will discuss with their counterparts on such areas as manpower training, information exchange, application and development of e-logistics, as well as logistics development programmes of the two places.

     For the tourism sector, members of the delegation include representatives from the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Hotels Association, travel agents, airlines, Hong Kong Disneyland, Ocean Park, Wetland Park, Ngong Ping 360 and universities providing training for the sector. Delegates of the logistics sector are from the LOGSCOUNCIL, Hong Kong Shippers Council, Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Chamber of Hong Kong Logistics Industry, Hong Kong Logistics Association, Hong Kong Productivity Council and other related organizations.

     The Permanent Secretary for Economic Development and Labour, Ms Eva Cheng; Commissioner for Tourism, Miss Au King-chi; and Deputy Secretary for Economic Development and Labour, Miss Janice Tse, are also members of the delegation.
