Job fair offers more than 8,200 vacancies

    The Labour Department and the Employees Retraining Board will jointly hold a two-day job fair starting from Tuesday (May 16), offering more than 8,200 vacancies and the latest information on employment and retraining.

     The event, "Retraining and Recruitment Expo 2006", will be held at Exhibition Gallery, ground floor, Hong Kong Central Library, Causeway Bay, from 11am to 6.30pm. Admission is free.

     A total of 80 companies will offer more than 7,000 vacancies for on-the-spot application. They are from different trades and industries, including catering, retail, property management and security, business service, banking, aviation and manufacturing sectors. Forty companies will take part in the fair each day.

     Special panels will also be mounted to display more than 1,000 vacancies solicited from another 46 companies.

     The vacancies offered cover positions such as financial planning manager, restaurant manager, shop manager, property management officer, customer service officer, shop assistant, sales assistant, cook, waiter, teller, sales representative, clerk, technician, flight attendant, beautician, security guard and car cleaning worker.

     More than 85% of the vacancies are full-time jobs. Most of them offer a monthly salary ranging from $5,000 to $10,000. More than 90% of the vacancies require Form 5 educational level or below. About 60% of them are open to job-seekers without relevant experience.

     Job-seekers can submit applications on the spot and may be selected for on-site interviews.

     Some of the participating companies will hold career talks to give details of the vacancies they offered.

     The department will conduct on-the-spot job registration. The board and 10 retraining institutes will give out information on retraining courses and accept on-the-spot application for the courses.
