Siu Lam Hospital (SLH) issued the following announcement today (12 May):
Seven patients (aged 29 to 58) of a female ward in SLH presented with fever and respiratory symptoms from 7 May 2006 to 12 May 2006. The patients are now in stable condition. One of the patients is asymptomatic while the other six patients have been transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital and are being treated under isolation. The influenza A and B test results of four patients are negative while the results for the other three patients are still pending.
Infection control measures of the ward concerned have already been stepped up. Admission to and discharge from the ward have been suspended, while visiting policy remains normal. Patients’ relatives have been informed about the situation. All other patients and the staff in the ward are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
