Death of Tung Tau Correctional Institution inmate

    At about 8am today (May 7), a 57-year-old male inmate reported sick after taking meal at the dining hall of Tung Tau Correctional Institution with other inmates. He was escorted to the central hospital of the Institution where he suddenly collapsed.

     The inmate was then taken to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital where he was certified dead at 9.03am.

     Police has been informed of the incident. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.

     The Chinese inmate, surnamed Leung, was convicted of conspiracy to defraud and was sentenced to a six-month imprisonment. He was admitted to Tung Tau Correctional Institution on April 6, 2006.
