MPFA recovers MPF non-payment for 21 employees

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (April 12) pursued eight claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $240,000 on behalf of 21 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At today's hearing, the six defendants, Chi Wo Engineering Company Limited, Genesis Engineering Transportation Company Limited, Wai Keung Construction (Hong Kong) Company Limited, Wing Sang Auto Service, So Woo Fuk trading as Fuk Tai Transportation and Basic Tank (Knitwear) Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $44,617.48, $34,639.72, $25,325.81, $19,882.44, $18,460.32 and $17,984.46, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other two defendants, including D-International Limited and Pillar Education Foundation Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $43,764.75 and $42,753.82, being mandatory contribution in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $180, $170, $220, $180, $170, $260, $320 and $170 as costs in respect of the claims.

     Genesis Engineering Transportation Company Limited, Wai Keung Construction (Hong Kong) Company Limited and Basic Tank (Knitwear) Limited, pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistrate's Courts earlier to 13, two and 28 counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and were fined $38,000, $8,000 and $30,000 respectively.
