Applications for Common Recruitment Examination to be invited tomorrow
******************************************************

From tomorrow (March 25), prospective applicants for civil service jobs at degree or professional level can apply to sit for the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) scheduled for June 3, 2006 (Saturday).

A spokesman for the Civil Service Bureau (CSB) said passes in CRE papers were required of applicants for civil service posts at degree or professional level, and were valid for three years. "People who are interested in applying for civil service posts at degree or professional level in the near future may wish to consider sitting for the coming CRE, so as to be eligible to apply for civil service openings at degree or professional level that might be available before another CRE is held," he said.

The examination consists of three one-hour papers - Use of English, Use of Chinese and Aptitude Test - in multiple-choice format. Applicants for civil service posts at degree or professional level are required to obtain a pass in each of the two language papers in the CRE. Applicants for some of these posts are also required to pass the Aptitude Test. The CRE is held independent of the recruitment processes for any civil service posts. People who wish to apply for any civil service vacancies should apply to the recruiting grades/departments direct.

Holders of degree or professional qualifications, or university students who will have attained a degree in 2006 may apply to sit for the coming CRE.

People interested in taking the coming CRE may apply through the on-line facilities at the CSB homepage at www.csb.gov.hk, or using the CRE application form (CSB31 (8/2005)) which can be downloaded from the CSB homepage or obtained from any of the Public Enquiry Service Centres of District Offices or Job Centres of Labour Department from March 25 onwards. Applications must be submitted before 5pm on April 11, 2006 (Hong Kong time).

For more details on the coming CRE, please visit the CSB homepage. Enquiries may be made to the Civil Service Examinations Unit by phone (2537 6429) or by e-mail (csbcseu@csb.gov.hk).
