Caritas Medical Centre updates on Norovirus outbreak

    Following our earlier announcement on the medical ward in Wai Shun Block of Caritas Medical Centre (CMC) where there were five patients and staff presenting with diarrhea symptoms, the hospital spokesperson announced the following update today (March 21).

     Today, one more staff of the ward concerned presented with diarrhea symptoms. She is now on sick leave. Hospital has arranged appropriate test for her.

     As at today (March 21), there are three patients and three staff presented with diarrhea symptoms. All three patients had positive results for Norovirus. They are treated in isolation rooms and their condition is stable. The three staff are now on sick leave. Their test results are pending.

     Admission to this ward has been suspended. Visiting will be temporarily suspended for the isolation rooms. Infection control measures have been stepped up in the concerned ward. All patients and visitors are under close surveillance.

     CMC Infection Control Team has reported the cases to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection.
