Attempted suicide at Tai Lam Centre for Women
*********************************************

A remand prisoner who attempted suicide was found and rescued at about 10.40pm on Saturday (March 18) in a hospital ward inside the Tai Lam Centre for Women (TLCW) by staff of the Correctional Services Department (CSD).

The prisoner, surnamed Lau, was found hanging with a piece of torn pillowcase tied to the window bar inside the ward and was immediately lowered and given first-aid treatment by CSD staff. The on-call Medical Officer of the institution was summoned.

The woman, fully conscious, was sent by ambulance to the Tuen Mun Hospital at 11pm for further treatment

Lau, aged 28, was admitted to the hospital section of the TLCW on a charge of theft on Friday (March 17). She was put in the centre's hospital on admission for observation because of her past history of concealing suspected drugs.
