Press release on Kowloon Hospital gastroenteritis outbreak update

    Kowloon Hospital spokesman today (16 March 2006) said that following the announcement yesterday on the gastroenteritis and fever symptoms of eight female patients and two staff members of a medical ward in the Rehabilitation Building, there are three new cases (female, aged 74 to 98) reported today. All 11 patients are being treated under isolation and in stable condition. The two staff are now on sick leave.  Appropriate test is being carried out. The test outcome of one of the patients is positive to Norovirus.

     There will be no admission to and discharge from the ward for the time being.  All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.  In addition, infection control measures have already been enhanced and visiting of the isolated cubicle is suspended temporary.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
