LCK Reception Centre prisoner rescued from suicide attempt

    A prisoner who attempted suicide was found and rescued at about 2am today (March 6) in a cell of Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre (LCKRC) by staff of the Correctional Services Department (CSD).

     The prisoner was found hanging himself with a piece of torn bed sheet tied to the grille of the cell and was immediately lowered and given first-aid by CSD staff. The on-call Medical Officer was summoned.  

     The prisoner, fully conscious, was sent by ambulance to the Caritas Medical Centre at 2.28am for further treatment.

     The prisoner, surnamed Wong and aged 38, was admitted to LCKRC on February 27 after being convicted of dealing in goods contrary to the Dutiable Commodities Ordinance.

     He was jailed for three months and 14 days.
