225,000 books sold at charity book sale
***************************************

The Sale of Donated Books, which was held this weekend (February 25 and 26), attracted over 30,000 people and more than 225,000 books sold.

The number of participants and books sold have increased respectively by 20% and 15%. About 25,000 people participated and 195,000 books were sold last year.

A spokesman for the Leisure and Cultural Services Department pointed out that the success of the campaign was due to the efforts of the various organisations and the volunteers' participation. Over 1,300 sessions of volunteer service contributed to this year's campaign.

The Book Donation and Sale Campaign is jointly organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Home Affairs Department, 18 District Councils, Hong Kong Housing Authority, Hongkong Post, The Community Chest of Hong Kong and the Agency for Volunteer Service with the aim of promoting reading, book recycling and charity.

As of today, about 250,000 books were collected this year and offered for sale at $5 each with a limit of 30 books each buyer. All proceeds will be donated to The Community Chest of Hong Kong.
