HKMA Art Competition (with photos)
**********************************

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) recently organised an art competition for primary school students in Hong Kong.  A prize presentation ceremony was held on February 18 (Saturday).

Students were invited to show their creativity by creating pictures of any subject using images of coins currently or previously in circulation in Hong Kong.

The art competition is one of the HKMA¡¯s community programmes.  The objective of these programmes is to foster public understanding and increase public awareness of the financial system of Hong Kong.

"The response is positive and we are impressed by the primary students' creativity," said Chief Executive of the HKMA, Mr Joseph Yam, when presenting the prizes to the winners during the ceremony.  "The competition has helped to bring many younger members of the community into contact with the HKMA and its work, which is something we welcome," he added.

Over 5,000 students participated in this competition and 151 shortlisted entries were submitted to the HKMA by 55 schools.  Thirteen winning entries were selected based on their theme, creativity, technique and overall quality.  The winners each received a certificate and book tokens.

The top three winning drawings are being displayed in the HKMA Information Centre until 4 March.  They will then be displayed together with other winning entries in the public areas of the HKMA offices at Two International Finance Centre in Central.
