Iberica de Danza brings Spanish folklore onto the world stage
********************************************************

Iberica de Danza from Spain will bring to Hong Kong audiences a fresh take on traditional Spanish dance when it performs two shows in April.

Grounded in the rich tradition of Spanish folklore, Iberica de Danza explores the realm of Spanish dance, from the folk dances of various regions, classical dance and bolero to flamenco, creating a perfect synthesis of the past and the present.

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the programme includes seguidilla "They Go through the Air", flamenco "Time of Martinete", and contemporary choreography of classical dance "Labyrinth, Chapel and Square".

Iberica de Danza has pioneered a form of modern dance that is faithfully based on traditional Spanish dancing. The exuberance of the music and movement opens up a completely new imaginative field and takes the dancing of Spanish villages onto the world stage. Productions include pure Spanish forms, "Danza Historica" (through research) and of course, flamenco.

Since its foundation in 1993, the troupe has produced 12 shows and performed in 20 countries, winning wide acclaim. The company has represented Spain in numerous international festivals at home and abroad. The company's founder and Director Manuel Segovia was awarded the National Award for Creative Dance in 2001 and the "Antonio Ruiz Soler" Villa of Madrid Award for Choreography, 2004.

"Iberian Dances - A new look on Spanish traditions" will be staged at 8pm, April 1 and 2 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall and Yuen Long Theatre respectively.
