Six employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (February 9) pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $155,000 on behalf of 26 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At today's hearing, the five defendants - Nam Tai Security Co Ltd, High China Investments Ltd, Qiwi Company Ltd, Vigorous Property Management Limited and Lee Siu Hung trading as Golden View Transportation Co, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $46,717.40, $37,214.52, $29,905.33, $10,509.52 and $7,000.00 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other defendant, Creative Glory Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $23,889.66, being mandatory contribution in arrears and surcharge payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $160, $260, $230, $90, $60 and $140 as the costs in respect of the claims.

     Nam Tai Security Company Limited and Creative Glory Limited pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy earlier to four and seven counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time respectively, and were fined $14,000 and $17,000.
