Food factory ordered to close
*****************************

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) today (February 1) ordered the temporary closure of a food factory "Pak Ka Pun Choi" at No 1, ground floor, Po Wai Building, 6-14 Tak Yip Street, Yuen Long for thorough cleansing and disinfection.

The FEHD was informed by the Department of Health of a cluster of food poisoning outbreaks related to consumption of "Poon Choi" manufactured and prepared by the food factory.

"In view of the increasing number of food poisoning outbreaks reported,  there is epidemiological ground to support temporary closure of the food factory for thorough cleansing and disinfection," a spokesman for the department said.

The food factory will remain closed until cleansing and disinfection are completed to the satisfaction of the Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene. It can be re-opened only when the director is fully satisfied that the immediate health hazard on the premises has been eliminated.

Under the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance, the director is empowered to quickly close premises that pose immediate health hazards to the public.
