The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene has ordered a restaurant in Kwai Chung to shut down for 14 days for repeated violations of the Food Business Regulation.

The restaurant, on the ground floor of 23 Lai Fong Street, was ordered to suspend business from today (January 29) to February 11, a Food and Environmental Hygiene Department spokesman said.

"In May and November last year, there were two convictions for operating unlicensed food business on the pavement in front of the shop and unauthorised extension of food business outside the licensed area at the premises.

"A total fine of $3,000 was levied and 15 points were registered against the licensee under the department's demerit points system. The contraventions resulted in the 14-day business suspension," the spokesman said.

He added there were also two convictions for unauthorised extension of food business outside the licensed area at the same restaurant in April last year.

"A total fine of $2,700 was levied and 30 demerit points were also registered against the licensee. The breaches led to business suspension for seven days from July 27 to August 2 last year," the spokesman said.

He reminded licensees of food premises to comply strictly with the Food Business Regulation, otherwise their licences could be suspended or cancelled.
