SJ's remarks on Mr Michael Wong Kin-chow's case
***********************************************

Following is the transcript (English portion) of the remarks made by the Secretary for Justice, Mr Wong Yan Lung, SC, in response to media enquiries on the case of Mr Michael Wong Kin-chow today (January 25):

Regarding the decision not to prosecute the former judge, Mr Michael Wong, and related persons, the Director of Public Prosecutions has already earlier provided you with very detailed reasons. There is nothing more I can add here. However, I would like to emphasize that this decision, like all other decisions on prosecutions, is made after very careful consideration of the evidence and is completely in line with our established prosecution policy. And also as you know, before making this decision, we have instructed a leading counsel in London who is an expert in this area to go into all the evidence of the case. And he came to the conclusion that there is not sufficient evidence to justify the prosecution and this opinion is completely in line with our internal assessment.
