SETW's visit to KCRC to boost staff morale (with photos)

    The Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works, Dr Sarah Liao today (January 20) visited Kowloon Canton Railway Corporation's (KCRC) Ho Tung Lau Depot to show her support to front line staff who has been working round the clock to maintain and inspect the East Rail fleet.

     Dr Liao said, "The community has been very concerned with the safe operation of East Rail since the mounting problem of underframe equipment of East Rail trains happened. Front-line staff must have felt the tremendous pressure being focused on them. However, both legislators and the Government appreciate that KCRC staff has been working very hard to maintain a reliable service at East Rail and to ensure safe train operation."

     Joining the visit were Legislative Councillors, Mr Andrew Cheng, Mr Raymond Ho, Mr Jeffrey Lam, Mr Lau Kwong-wah, Ms Miriam Lau and Mr Abraham Shek and Permanent Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works, Mr Joshua Law; Commissioner for Transport, Mr Alan Wong; and Director of Highways, Mr Mak Chai-kwong. The visitors were impressed by the dedication of the staff and their commitment to serve the community.  

     They were accompanied by KCRC's Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr Samuel Lai and Senior Director, Transport, Mr YT Li to visit the service pit where more than 100 people were conducting inspection of trains, briefed by the management staff at the Control Room and chat with staff at the canteen.
