Lotteries Fund allocates more than $126 million to welfare programmes

    The Lotteries Fund allocated $126,099,200 to finance various social welfare service programmes from October to December last year, a Social Welfare Department spokesman said today (January 13).

     Of the total, $110,774,600 went to elderly and medical social services, $8,383,500 went to rehabilitation services, $3,890,000 went to social welfare support, $1,710,000 went to family and child welfare, $709,200 to youth services, $618,900 to services for offenders and $13,000 to community development.

     The fund was established to finance, by way of grants, loans or advances, the operation or development of social welfare services and medical or educational projects with a welfare content, the spokesman said.
