The Government today (January 12) announced the appointment of Professor Lawrence J Lau as a new member of the Steering Committee on Innovation and Technology for a two-year term from today.
All existing members of the committee have also been re-appointed for a term of two years with effect from today.
Professor Lau is the Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and is a distinguished economist. He is currently serving on the Commission on Strategic Development and the Board of Directors of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation.
The Steering Committee was set up in January, 2004, to advise on the formulation and implementation of innovation and technology policies and ensure effective co-ordination and synergy among different elements of the innovation and technology programme. The Steering Committee is chaired by the Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology with members from relevant Government bureaux, academia, industry, and innovation and technology organisations.
