Employer ordered to pay MPF non-payment
***************************************

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (December 29) pursued a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $27,000 on behalf of an employee, who was owed MPF contributions by the employer.

The defendant, Kwok Wing Newspaper & Magazines Company Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $27,405, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employee's MPF account as soon as it is received by the MPFA. The court further awarded a payment of $110 as the cost of the claim.

Kwok Wing Newspaper & Magazines Company Limited pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy earlier to six counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time after making deduction from the income of an employee, and was fined $16,000.
