CE's transcript
***************

Following is the transcript of the media session by the Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, on the first day of his duty visit to Beijing on December 27:

Reporter: (relationship between the democrats and the CPG)

CE: I am sure that it has always been a policy of the Central Government to look after the interests of Hong Kong. It has been very accommodating and very selfless in what it has done in the past eight years. I am sure this fundamental policy would not change. What has happened on the 21st of this month, that a proposal which has gained the support of the majority of Hong Kong people was not approved by the Legislative Council cannot be ignored. This has happened. So we have to consider what we should do next. On this regard, I would do my very best to be the middleman to ensure that there would be continuous contact. This requires the efforts of not one party as myself but everybody and not involve in one single subject but a host of subjects affecting the livelihood of Hong Kong people. We cannot ignore what had happened on the 21st has an impact on the development of this closer relationship.

Reporter:  Do you get more information on Ching Cheong¡¯s case? Would you be raising with the Chinese authorities about¡

Chief Executive: This will be one of the subjects I would hope to raise with the authorities concerned. I have continued and tried to understand the development of this case. And I will continue to do that.
