Reviewing a passing-out parade at the Police Training School today (December 24), member of the Constitutional Development Task Force, Ms Elsie Leung, said Police officers had earned the praises and support of all citizens by displaying a high degree of devotion and professionalism in discharging their duties during the World Trade Organisation Ministerial Conference recently held in Hong Kong.

She said that Police's performance had further enhanced the Force's reputation as one of the Asia's finest.

Ms Leung was also of the view that the stability and prosperity of Hong Kong relied to a considerable extent on the integrity and excellence of the Police Force which upheld the rule of law.

"Police work nowadays is without doubt among the most difficult, trying and complex of jobs. It is a job which requires skill, determination, integrity and an abundance of common sense.

"You will be expected to demonstrate moral fortitude in performing your duties.  You will need sharpness of response and good judgment. You will also need stamina and physical courage in moments of crisis," she told the graduating officers.

Ms Leung believed that the officers would endeavour to do the best to serve the community and maintain the good reputation of the Hong Kong Police.

"If you make a dedicated effort, you will be able to surmount all the challenges ahead. Not only will you find much satisfaction in your work, but also support and trust from the public," she said.

A total of 10 probationary inspectors and 173 recruit constables passed out today after completing the highly demanding and professional training.
