*******************************************************

Police today (December 23) charged a 21-year-old man with six counts of wasteful employment of Police officers.

The man was arrested in the morning of November 21 after he had made a hoax fighting report in Kowloon City.

At about 7.15 am, Police received a telephone call from a man claiming that several men were fighting inside a residential flat on To Kwa Wan Road.

Police officers were deployed to attend the scene but found no fighting had taken place. When officers were conducting sweeping in the building, they found the 21-year-old man acting suspiciously outside the management office.

A subscriber check showed that the hoax report was made from the mobile phone carried by the man and he was arrested for wasteful employment of Police officers.

Further investigations by the District Investigation Team of Kowloon City revealed that the man had made five other hoax reports on different cases in the same building in November.

The man will appear in Kowloon City Magistrates¡¯ Courts on December 30.

A Police spokesman stressed that under the Criminal Procedure Ordinance, it is an offence to make a false report which is punishable by a fine of $2,000 and six months¡¯ imprisonment on summary conviction.
