Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island

Police officers issued a total of 403 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 26 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

The operation concluded at 7 pm today (December 22) and a total of 147 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

A total of 274 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 129 for other traffic offences.

Sixty-seven pedestrians and 241 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.

Statistics revealed that a total of 2,724 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to November this year.

Of them, 50.4 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
