Five employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment
*********************************************

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (December 21) pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $160,000 on behalf of eight employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

At today's hearing, the four defendants - Yeung Yip Fun trading as Yeung Lee Transportation Company, Well Union & Union Limited, Nam Tai Security Company Limited and Kong Yim Mui trading as Ching Heung Yuen Cafe - did not dispute the amounts claimed.  The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $69,993.74, $33,848.07, $29,286.61 and $11,595.13 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The other defendant, Top One Transportation & Trading Company Limited, did not appear at today's hearing.  In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $13,500, being mandatory contribution in arrears and surcharge payable.

The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $330, $170, $110, $150 and $310 as the costs in respect of the claims.

Nam Tai Security Company Limited pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy earlier to four counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time, and was fined $14,000.
