**************************************************

In an operation codenamed "Jaguar" on December 19, Customs officers of Customs Drug Investigation Bureau seized from a local man, who was departing for Australia at the airport, 700 grams of methamphetamine ("Ice") with a market value of $230,000.

At 9.40pm, Customs officers intercepted a suspicious-looking local man whose thighs were packed with 700 grams of methamphetamine.

The 44-year-old man was arrested. He will be charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear in Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts this afternoon (December 21).

"During the festive season, Customs will step up enforcement action against drugs trafficking," a spokesman of Customs and Excise said today.

"To combat transnational drug trafficking activities, Hong Kong Customs will continue to maintain close cooperation with their Mainland counterparts and overseas law enforcement agencies in the exchange of intelligence and the conduct of joint investigations," he continued.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence and the maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
